Human Resources Assistant needed temporarily to complete the set up of the Human Resource function at Local Projects in Lower Manhattan. The assistant will work with the Human Resources Manager to review the current HR objectives -- including recruiting, onboarding, performance reviews, benefits and professional development. This assignment will include the clear set up of the folders and systems to make ongoing HR work more streamlined and effective. The HR assistant will be another clear set of hands on deck to make working at Local Projects fulfilling and a well supported experience, where employees feel that the appropriate care and attention is given towards their individual, team and company success.

Local Projects www.localprojects.net is a media design firm for museums and public spaces. While innovation drives much of today’s design, we’re interested in creating projects that endure.

We’re reinventing public space through media, creating meaning and connections in places as diverse as Memorials, Times Square, and art installations. We focus on engaging audiences through emotion and technology, developing new ways for people to interact with art, cities and one another.

We gather stories through collaborative storytelling projects, and between Storycorps, the 9/11 Memorial Museum and Change By Us, we have brought forth over 100,000 individuals’ stories and memories, sharing them with the world and touching millions of lives.

Local Projects has won top prize for every major design award including the National Design Award for Interaction Design, Fast Company Masters of Design, Webby Gold, Muse Gold and AIGA Gold. They were #2 on Fast Company’s 2011 list for most innovative design studios and were named to the 2012 Public Interest 100, for people working in the Public Interest, alongside Bill Clinton and the Knight Foundation.


Working with the HR Manager on reviewing all I9’s to verify and take necessary actions to correct any compliance concerns.

Verifying and addressing employee payroll deductions regarding accuracy.

Verifying remaining paid time off for each employee.

Reviewing health insurance and other benefit vendor invoices for accuracy—401k, etc.

Working with the HR Manager to complete any data entry in systems to properly onboard new employees.

Work with HR Manager regarding offer letters, and termination letters for employees.

Work with HR Manager to catch up on all scanning and filing of HR forms in the Box system.

Work with HR Manager to clean up the job descriptions, research salary bands and titles.

Work with HR Manager to further develop the first draft of the Employee Handbook.

Serve as first point of contact when HR Manager is out of office or in meetings, taking clear actionable messages when needed.

Assist with recruiting screening in Workable, the Company’s recruiting system, helping to streamline and update all job descriptions.

Work in Learning & Development as possible and needed

Streamlining and making more effective the Performance Management process


At least a year of HR work is required

A deep understanding of the HR function, Masters Degree or work towards such a degree is preferred

PHR Certification is a plus

Protects the confidentiality of HR information: salaries, personal information, etc.
